Nickel titanium alloy pipes can be bent and will not break within the normal design range. Relying on super elasticity/shape memory, they can bounce back to their original state after releasing external force, which is much better than ordinary stainless steel pipes; However, if the limit is exceeded, the process is improper, or the position of the weld seam is affected, it will still fracture.

Difference between two states

1. Superelastic state (room temperature austenite, most commonly used)

At room temperature, it can directly bend and withstand a maximum recoverable strain of about 8%. Bending within a reasonable bending radius, automatic rebound upon release, no permanent creases, suitable for repeated cyclic bending, and not easily broken after millions of bends.

>When bending thin-walled pipes (such as 0.08mm ultra-thin walls), attention should be paid to: if the bending radius is too small, the outer wall thickness of the pipe will be stretched thin, the inner side will wrinkle and collapse, and it will directly crack. Thin walled nickel titanium bent pipes generally require core rod support to control the minimum bending radius.

2. Low temperature state of martensite

The texture is softer at low temperatures and can be bent and shaped; Heating to the phase transition temperature automatically returns to the preset original shape (shape memory effect).

What situation will break?

-The bending radius is too small, and the local strain exceeds the material limit;

-Scratches, cracks, and impurities on the surface of the pipe;

-The welding area is a weak point: brittle phases are generated in the welding heat affected zone, and small radius bending at the weld position is more prone to cracking (which is also a key control area of Pengchengrui welding process);

-Repeated alternating bending exceeding the fatigue limit;

-Improper heat treatment of materials results in high residual stress.

Nickel titanium alloy pipes support bending forming, which is different from ordinary metals. They are not easily broken after bending within a safe bending range, and have both flexibility and fatigue resistance characteristics. Pengchengrui Technology in Huizhou City provides 0.08mm to 4mm full specification nickel titanium pipes, strictly controlling the metallographic and residual stress of the pipes. The welded joints also retain good bending ability, solving the pain points of thin-walled bending and cracking, and providing one-stop material and processing solutions for medical and precision equipment.
