Shape memory alloy is a material that combines technology and practicality. The common shape memory alloys are mainly divided into three categories: titanium nickel based, copper based, and iron-based. They are widely used in medical, aerospace, daily necessities, and other fields.
1、 Common types of shape memory alloys
1. Titanium nickel alloy (Ti Ni): This is currently the most widely used and stable shape memory alloy in terms of performance. It has good memory effect, strong corrosion resistance, and excellent biocompatibility, making it the preferred material in the medical field.

3. Iron based alloys: such as Fe Mn Si alloys, which have the characteristics of high strength, high toughness, and low cost. However, its shape memory effect is relatively weak and is mainly used for structural components that can withstand large loads.
2、 Typical application scenarios of shape memory alloys
1. Medical field
Orthodontics: Dental braces made of titanium nickel alloy can slowly restore their predetermined shape at oral temperature and continuously apply corrective force to teeth.
Vascular stent: The stent is compressed at low temperatures, and after implantation into the blood vessel, it will return to its original state due to body temperature, stretch the narrowed blood vessel and fix it, reducing surgical trauma.
Surgical suture: Titanium nickel alloy suture can tighten on its own, reducing the risk of postoperative infection, and has good biocompatibility, without the need for secondary suture removal.
2. Aerospace field
Satellite antenna: When a satellite is launched, the antenna is folded to save space. After entering space, it is heated (such as solar heating) to restore its deployed state, ensuring signal reception and transmission.
Engine pipeline connection: Utilizing the fastening properties of shape memory alloy, it automatically shrinks at high temperatures to achieve a sealed connection of the pipeline, avoiding the weight redundancy of traditional bolt connections.
3. Daily and industrial fields
Temperature control valve: The alloy valve core automatically opens or closes at a specific temperature, used for automatic temperature control of water heaters, air conditioners, and other equipment.
Anti scald faucet: When the water temperature exceeds the safe value, the alloy component deforms and cuts off the water flow. After the temperature drops, the water supply is restored, providing protection.
Glasses frame: After the titanium nickel alloy frame is compressed and deformed, it can be restored to its original shape by soaking in warm water and is not easily damaged.
